On May 23, 2003, the Company filed a patent for the DSTag (disc security tag), an invention which utilizes existing EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) technologies embedded into the hub ring of a CD or DVD during the injection molding phase of the manufacturing process. Inclusion of the EAS tags into the product directly makes them irremovable from the product without severe damage. This also prevents the thief from removing the disc from the package, thereby leaving the EAS tags on the shelf and leaving the retail location undetected with the disc. This product provides manufacturers the opportunity to enhance the integrity of their products while providing added value to their customers (retailers) that are desperate to reduce or stop the enormous losses attributed to employee and retail theft. Additionally, it can give content developers, manufacturers and distributors the ability to protect their investment by providing an efficient means to authenticate legitimate products over counterfeit products produced by unauthorized manufacturers.
